The CA-61 can be built as a single-seat light aircraft, with any continental engine of between 65 and 85 HP. Alternatively, the single-seater can be fitted with a modified Volkswagen engine. Construction takes less than 1000 hours.
The following details refer specifically to the single-seat prototype.
Type: Single-seat light aircraft.
Wings: Cantilever low-wing monoplane. Wing section NACA 4415. Aspect ratio 6. Constant chord of 4 ft 7 in (1.40 m). Dihedral 3º. No incidence. Structure consists of two spruce spars, each built in one piece, built-up spruce girder-type ribs and plywood-covered leading-edge torsion box, with fabric covering overall. Fabric-covered spruce ailerons. No flaps.
Fuselage: Conventional wooden structure of basic square section, plywood covered.
Tail Unit: Cantilever wooden structure, covered with plywood. Fixed incidence tailplane. Trim-tab in elevator.
Landing Gear: Non-retractable tail-wheel type. Cantilever main legs, with helical spring shock-absorption. Goodyear main wheels and tires, size 5.00 X 5 Type III and Model L5 brakes. Steerable tail-wheel.
Power Plant: One 65 HP Continental A65 four-cylinder horizontally-opposed air-cooled engine, driving a Flottorp 63-55 two-blade fixed-pitch propeller. Fuel in two steel tanks in fuselage, with capacities of 12 US gallons and 5 US gallons respectively. Total fuel capacity 17 US gallons (64 litres). Oil capacity 1¼ US gallons ( 4.5 litres).
